An Open Letter to Creflo Dollar

by MullOverThis

Thank you, Creflo, for revealing your feelings and suggested guidance for New Birth members who left Bishop Eddie Long and New Birth.  In doing so, you have also revealed a tremendous problem with the “Doc” syndrome and the boys club amongst pastors/preachers.   Please know that the problem has been forewarned to the Body of Christ in the Word of God, so many of us are not alarmed. Some of us are merely disappointed but will continue to be loyal to God, not the loyal to manipulative “game” Docs engage in, as demonstrated in your plea for New Birth members to forgive your friend.

First of all, Mr. Dollar, church loyalty from parishioners should never be based upon who is your friend, or not your friend.  THE BIG ESSENCE OF CREFLO DOLLAR and who you decide is friend-worthy does not credential or validate whether or not sound people with sound minds should pledge their allegiance to a pompous man who has not demonstrated a modicum of humility to the people of whom you expect loyalty. Pay attention Grand Super Doc, Creflo.  Your friend may still be going to heaven and is human just like the rest of us.  But, before he gets to heaven, he’s got some explaining to do to the Body of Christ.  When your super-buffed and wilfully dressed to show it friend cut the fool enough for him to squirmishly admit he wasn’t perfect, he admitted that there is some stuff going on.  We’d rather not have to know it, but since it amounted to lawsuits, Super Grand Doc, and he is supposed to be a Bishop, you know how this is supposed to work.

Harold Camping: A Different Kind of Doomsday

by MullOverThis

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Doomsday is here. There have been earthquakes and all kinds of quandary going on. Where, you say? In the hearts of the faithful followers of Harold Camping, and probably in the hearts of many other believers, who now have probable cause to question many things they’ve believed.

When I first learned about the end of the world coming based on Camping’s May 21, 5:59 PM prediction, what immediately came to mind was to pray for the people who emptied their bank accounts and quit their jobs because of it. His followers took to the streets to convince people to subvert the explicit message in the Bible-that no man knows the hour or the time that Jesus will return and that when he comes he will come like a thief in the night-with the implicit message coded in mathematical secrets carefully hidden in the scriptures that supposedly gives us the actual date. The last time I checked, the only thief who announces himself is one who has enough hubris to think he won’t get caught. And where there’s pride, there’s deception. And no offense to Brother Camping. I am sure he was sincere, but the consequences may be too great to bear.

The dilemma in all of this is where does a person go from here? What happens when everything you believed comes crashing to the ground? What happens when you sacrificed your life for something that has become a punchline? If such a massive prediction was wrong, then what else is wrong in the state of Denmark? And this leads me to my next thought, whatever you believe, make sure it is what YOU believe, not someone else’s conviction. One thing we love to do in this country is elevate people and make them infallible. We regard titles over integrity, gifts over character, large congregations of onlookers over small congregations of sincere people, and that leads us into a downward spiral of deception. Why? We may find that we are not gazing upon what is real, but rather fallacies designed to keep us in a state of ineffectiveness and spiritual lethargy. We are so busy looking at the sparkle that we don’t realize we are being blinded by the shine.

The bottom line is if you choose to follow this faith called Christianity, follow IT, not people. We often follow people because we never go back and check to make sure what we are learning really lines up with the Bible, as well as buy into cult of personality. I’m sure when we all examine some catchphrases we use, some doctrines we adhere to, so-called deep happenings, and things we send people to hell for, we may find that they do not hold water. Why? Because someone we highly respect told it to us and we felt too small to fact check. This is not the days of the Orthodox church of old where only one person could read the Bible while the rest were left to have it interpreted for them. And this is not pre-emancipation days where we get in trouble if Massa’ catches us readin’. And I certainly am not encouraging anyone to usurp authority and run rogue. But what I am saying is that we need to learn how to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling and not leave our lives in the hands of someone who cannot answer for us when the end finally does come. The purpose of sound leadership is to mature us in the faith so that we don’t have to wake him or her up in the middle of the night to pray for our bum pinky toe.

Sorry for the sass, grit, and mother wit, but I’m mad. I’m mad because there are people right now who probably want to commit suicide because they cannot bear the embarrassment, the weight of the disillusionment, and the fact that they will not be clocking in to work tomorrow because they quit their dream job over some arithmetic. The father who emptied his bank account may now have to explain to his children that they will no longer pray before they eat because there is no food and no God (so he thinks). Worse yet, what about the ones who think maybe they have been left behind? Yikes! It kills me to know that there is something inside of us that could allow other people to be responsible for what we believe to the point of putting us out of God’s house and into the nut house and the po’ house. Something doesn’t add up.

Work out your own salvation and leave the calculatin’ to God. Peace……………

OBAMA KILLED OSAMA!

by MullOverThis

Really?

Obama was the master-mind who authored the strategy to find and assassinate Bin Laden?  Forget the requests of the birthers.  I’d love to see Obama’s notes on this one.

I thought Kook Aid was “played out”, but people are still drinking the juice.

Or, did Obama just grant approval to the intelligence officials and military experts who have worked through various administrations to assassinate the selected face of terrorism to distract the masses from the real wicked folks-who were born and raised right here in America-who gave OSAMA fuel for his insane tank?

I won’t even delve into the question of is Osama really dead, because it really doesn’t matter.

Two thousand bullets or bludgeoning strikes against Osama won’t kill what drove Bin Laden.  Sorry to break the real news:  Osama and his hatred for America and his distorted quest to fight holy wars for his god won’t be stopped with his so-called end.

The real adversary and enemy of our souls is still working to cause nations to fight against nations.  So, America hasn’t won a thing.  Prayer is still necessary, and wisdom for those who make decisions for our nation will make the difference.

PALIN: AMERICA’S INSURANCE POLICY

by MullOverThis

Ann Coulter penned an article, “THE BEST MAN TURNED OUT TO BE A WOMAN”.

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=28370

I’m not surprised that ANN and other inner-cusp Repubs will justify this appointment at any cost.  The flags of sexism will continue to be posted wherever there is a legitimate challenge to Palin’s ability to be a decent mother to her THREE CONSIDERABLY UNDERAGE CHILDREN while she is supposed to be the Vice President of the United States.  Motherhood and family values are of utmost importance to the GOP platform. Palin’s appointment proves that for this possible administration, this is theory at best.  Let’s all work and fight for ideals and principles but not live them.

McCain’s need for a gun-toting, pro-life, tax-cutting young female GOP running mate outweighs any other concerns.  For instance, McCain’s age and medical history was not a priority in appointing a POTUS-ready running mate.  Did GOP nominee McCain get the memo that if he wins the election, he would be the oldest US President to enter office?  McCain should have made the readiness of his VP to lead this nation of utmost importance in his selection.  Whether or not McCain outlives Bristol is not the issue.  McCain is supposed to be planning for the good of our nation–“Country First”– right GOP? The average family has enough sense to have insurance policies in the event of death.  Palin, with two  more months of shaking hands, cramming and trying to learn the ropes, come November is supposed to be mature and ready, God-forbid, to be America’s payout.

Otherwise, the idea of the small town girl who is not afraid to go against the grain and status quo to effectuate good is admirable.  Palin’s firm anti-abortion, pro-Christian beliefs are welcome.  Her youthfulness adds bliss to the equation.  If McCain wins takes us through the next four years, Palin will be ready to run for President AFTER her on-the-job training.  However, Republicans have been terribly hypocritical in this appointment with Palin’s substantial inexperience (a campaign theme against Nobama), and attempting to posit a mother of FIVE WITH FOUR UNDERAGE CHILDREN traipsing across this country and eventually the world, as the picture of family values in America.  No abortions, Dems.  That’s what matters.  Commitment to EFFECTIVE parenting, or at least having the appearance of the same, is not part of this platform.

Whew, I am ready for a Children First candidate.

Bynum’s Battle is Over–Weeks and Bynum Divorce Final

by MullOverThis

If you live long enough, you will experience the best of times and the worst of times, all at the same time.  This holds true, for example, when a doting father watches his only daughter get married.  The ultra dad may be exuberant while witnessing his daughter take on the life of a wife, all while grieving because his baby girl is now looking to another  as her strong man, protector, provider and leader.  Divorce often has this ambivalent effect on couples that don’t make it.  While each partner may be looking forward to a permanent dissolution of the marriage, it is often a painstaking reminder of the end of life as usual.  Psychologically, it can be as traumatic as experiencing a death, or loss of a loved one.  So, this divorce cannot be an easy time for Bynum or Weeks.

The couple received a final divorce decree on June 20, 2008 at the Atlanta area Gwinnett County Superior Court.  Bynum and Weeks were a high-profile ministry couple who had an unprecedented media exposed take-by-take coverage of the demise of their marriage.  Their union had challenges like most.  The straw that broke the camel’s back was the August 21, 2007 parking lot incident where Bynum alleged that her then husband, Weeks, assaulted her by beating and repeatedly kicking her.  Weeks plead guilty to aggravated assault, after initially stating that he never put his hands on  Bynum.  He later changed his story and said he pushed Bynum away because she was attempting to assault him.  Bynum was the one with the documented bruises and the testimony of two black male hotel employees who had no prior relationship to Bynum other than seeing her frequent the hotel.  Even with Weeks’ alleged spousal abuse to his first wife, alleged physical altercations with a male and female church employee, a switch in stories before the world, and conviction, he still claims to be the victim.

Had Michael Jackson, OJ Simpson, Marion Barry, Mike Tyson and most recently R. Kelly not been hailed as heros by a litany of supporters amidst alleged crimes against women and children, I might be alarmed.  This is the world we live in.  Where a prominent Baptist preacher petitioned for Mike Tyson, who has recently been linked to a murder plot in Bedford-Stuyvestant area of Brooklyn, New York, to have his prison sentence for raping Desiree Washington stayed.  Where were the church leaders petitioning for Bishop Weeks or other pastors with violent tendencies to have a stay from mounting a pulpit to lead people?  They couldn’t see past Bynum’s fiery personality, or whatever else became the focus.  I’m sure Desiree Washington understands.  Her commitment to dancing to win the competition for which she spent 6 months preparing, over 24 hour delay in reporting the crime, and willingness to visit the famous boxer’s hotel room–after having asked to re-schedule the date, after asking her roommate to go with her to Tyson’s hotel room (who declined)–made her a scorned girl who didn’t want to be treated like a one night stand.  Poor Mike, Poor OJ, Poor R.Kelly, Poor Weeks.  How dare anyone interrupt their lives and make them accountable for alleged criminal activity?

It will be a better day when the focus of crimes committed against women are on the actual criminal activity and not on all of the issues with which the women who were murdered, raped, beaten, and assaulted walk into the criminal activity .

Should Bynum have stayed will always be a question.  I happen to think that Bynum is a woman responsible for her own life before the Lord and that calling is greater than her calling to influence what a world looking at this fiasco will think about Christians who divorce.  One thing is certain:  her decision to leave is between her and the Lord who knows whether she would have ended up in a coffin from the maniacal behavior of a man who a bellman had to pull off of his wife while stating, “I’m going to kill you”.  The same people with signs praying for their celebrity and religious icons to get off (who they tend to empathize with), would be the same dramazoids waiting to view her body and crying empty tears.  Bynum made the choice to live and I don’t believe God intended for her to part by death at her husband’s hands.

Hilary Clinton’s Got Some Nerve

by MullOverThis

The absolute unmitigated colossal gaul or, “audacity of hope”  of Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton to continue her campaign as she congratulates Obama as the Democratic Nominee.  How dare this woman, who was squeezed out of the race by the influence of the media imposing pressure on fluctuating delegates and super-delegates, continue to get up and address the almost 18 million United States citizens that support her candidacy.  Ignore the fact that in terms of the popular vote, Senator Obama did not prevail against Senator Clinton when these demands for unity and the good of the party were at stake.

Eighteen million votes usually speak volumes: even when the last tidbits were being cast for Senator Clinton last night to get her 55% of the South Dakota votes to win that primary.  However, the morning has arrived and Senator Clinton is allegedly vying for a VP nod on the Democratic ticket.  We shall see who Senator Obama chooses as his running mate.  Nonetheless, Hilary fought a good fight and apparently, she hasn’t relinquished her gloves.

Father Pfleger Fired!

by MullOverThis

Father Michael Pleger, a Caucasian Catholic Priest on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, was asked to step down for his remarks against Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton during a sermon as guest preacher at Senator Obama’s former home church, the Trinity United Church of Christ of Chicago, Illinois.

 <object width=”425″ height=”344″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/gJyLX7X3PzU&hl=en”></param><param name=”wmode” value=”transparent”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/gJyLX7X3PzU&hl=en” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” wmode=”transparent” width=”425″ height=”344″></embed></object>

Again, Obama was not at the church during this sermon, as he was conveniently absent from all the prior controversial sermons that are presently problematic for the Presidential hopeful.  This tirade, however, given in big fat excuse tradition of Black liberation theology, was the straw that broke the camel’s back for the Obamas.   Barack, Michele and their two children have severed their ties, albeit regrettably, with their home church for almost 21 years.  To think, this church just started all of this political aggrandizing, with live cuss words in tow,  and using the pulpit to mobilize its congregants when Barack began his campaign (sarcasm here, folks). Barack went to church and left his ears at home for almost 21 years.

During this public discourse, Father Pfleger, a “friend” of the ministry,  Barack Obama, and would you be surprised if we mentioned Farrakhan, had the audacity to pre-suppose that Hilary Clinton is a White Supremacist whose tears were resultant from a sense of entitlement to the election because Bill was her husband, she is White,  and a black man, Barack, came out of no where to steal her thunder.  Barack’s friends better learn their lessons.   Friends and long-term alliances are expendable when it comes to his campaign.

The White Catholic Priest, who is so in tune with the thoughts of privileged White women, is now asked to temporarily step down.  The question is, was it because he needs to go back and as a priest be touched with the feelings and infirmities of women who live every day with men, who feel that they are entitled to the Presidency, superior corporate positions, and even positions within the church? Could it be that men wanted to shut this woman up, while she was still winning primaries and neck and neck with the Black man with the popular vote because men, and even catty queen bee women, are not ready to see a woman President?  Most likely, Father Pfleger missed his ABC’s of the priesthood and got caught up in a moment in a church where these types of moments are defended and highly applauded.  It is because the pulpit of any REAL church is supposed to be for the gospel, and the truth of the Word of God must be applied to all. It is not a place to vilify a white woman who ran for President and intimate her intentions and frustration with Barack were bred from White Supremacy, any more than Barack’s frustrations with Hilary were from misogynistic entitlements and having to deal with a fiery woman who capably stands toe to toe with a man.

Moderators Note:  This blog does not address Father Pfleger’s contribution to the Black Community or his commitment to equality in America.  Unlike Dr. Boyce and others, this moderator will not cloak nonsense with looking at all the good a  person has done to bypass aggregious offenses, just as we do not survey a person’s life work when they offend the black community and our community cries out for action and justice. There will be no hypocrisy here.  The man clowned on the pulpit, now he will take a reprieve or join the staff at Trinity. Thank God the Catholic Church took action against this impropriety, and prayerfully, they will begin to have such gumption when it comes to their priests who use their office to fulfill life-long missions to molest and rape boys and young girls.

CHRISTIAN EVANGELICAL LEADERS WILL RELEASE MANIFESTO IN RESPONSE TO POLITICS OF FAITH

by MullOverThis

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a response I posted to a blog posted by politicaldookie referencing Obama’s missed opportunity to bring “black liberation theology” to national prominance to heal the racial divide in America by distancing himself from Jeremiah Wright:

““Black liberation theology”?
Where was Jesus on this “theology”? Christ is not divided. The Word of God needs to be the primary focus in equipping ALL PEOPLE to live peaceably with one another and be effective witnesses in the earth. That is how theology should be linked to bridging racial, classist, ethnic, cultural and any other types of divides. This is a bunch of hogwash, putting it mildly, to justify nonsense. Black people are not liberated when empowered to swing back in offenses.   We are liberated in not doing wrong to recompense wrongs done to us. We are liberated when we live like Christians that fear God, so fear one another. Obama can’t be used to bridge what he does not comprehend himself. And his own words, or willingness to adopt those of speechwriters, speak volumes about his own level of understanding of the Word of God.  Abortion and homosexuality are not “workable” in God’s sight. Social ills and sin must be stood against by any Christian. Obama is not there yet.”

We will be waiting to see what this manifesto decrees.  Prayerfully, the leaders will address the arrogance of humanity to reduce God and the Gospel of the Kingdom to justify or cater to our own life experiences based upon denominational, political, racial, economic, gender, sexual and ethnic statifications.

FYI, this moderator acknowledges and appreciates the contributions of African American leaders, like Apostle Frederick K.C. Price, who has addressed racism within the church and in America with wisdom and Godly counsel.  He simply preaches the Word of God and takes appropriate actions within his authority in the earth.  We are not blind to concrete issues that everyday Christians face, we just handle them according to the Word of God.  This is what ultimately authors unity, reconciliation, faith, love and at the very least, empowers Black and ALL PEOPLE to live as God intended.

Northwestern University Pulls Honorary Doctorate Degree Plan for Jeremiah Wright Off of the Table

by MullOverThis

I can’t say that I fully comprehend why Northwestern University has withdrawn its offer to issue Obama’s former pastor an honorary doctorate in Sacred Theology.  Mere controversy should not be enough reason to trump a man’s entire life’s work as a spiritual leader if Wright was honorary-doctorate-worthy prior to Obama’s campaign.    Wright’s recent behavior is considerably akin to that which he has always displayed–that of a captivating orator who does not query with militant truth telling, according to his perspective and experience.  So, Northwestern University may not have done its homework in fully investigating Wright and the manner in which he has contributed his body of work to religion.

The university’s withdrawal of the degree says a mouth-full about the import of honorary doctorate degrees in the first place.   It also speaks to the resultant public disdain from the current trend of religious leaders who talk too much in the press.  It must be difficult to eat one’s own foot in the mouth.  The reality is, if the public no longer respects a leader , the public will not receive that leader, or respect too much of what the leader has to say.  Although the weight of an honorary doctorate is overblown, had Wright been silent or at least put his public scathing on the back burner, he might have still gained the honorary degree and Obama might be doing better in the public eye.

Hopefully, our Pastors and leaders will focus on living the great life we have been called to live.  Pastor Wright would do well to spend less time in front of the cameras, as this is not a MLK moment for him to mobilize a disenfranchised people who just don’t “get it” when it comes to America.  All of the pedagogy in the world will not convince anyone.  What comes out of our mouths and actions speak volumes and will live in the minds of the public.  The last thing we need to see is Wright take his 15 minutes of fame and make it an hour long goof.

Juanita Bynum on Divorce Court

by MullOverThis

In case you were wondering what her appearance was all about, check out the clips.

I have never seen divorce court spend so much air-time highlighting any special guests and their own lifestyles or issues.  So, this appearance is probably aimed at increasing the show’s ratings.

Whether or not Bynum’s appearance served ministerial purpose is really a question that only those who she spent time with can answer.  Nonetheless, I’m sure this won’t stop the philosophizers from philosphizing and waking up again tomorrow, having not demonstrated notable service outside of their own needs or interests to anyone else who has been substantially impacted by their lives.  Meanwhile, again Bynum has used her personal life experience to provide insight for someone else.

After being stomped by an unrepentant husband who still denies any real wrongdoing, it is easy for Bynum to identify with and tell another woman to love oneself enough to stop the domestic abuse before it cannot be curtailed.
