PROPAGANDA AT ITS BEST

by MullOverThis

As an ardent Nobamaite, I’m still appalled to see the last minute efforts to convince the public that although Obama is ahead in the polls, he still probably really isn’t “ahead”.  Chris Rock joked about the historic pattern of White people changing the rules midstream:  Obama can have the most votes, but if necessary, the rules will change to make the outcome of the election exactly what White people want.  Of course, while he was making a sweeping generalization about White people while joking (which is generally unacceptable), he was also making a statement.  And, so are the major media outlets that are now giving more airtime to discuss the Bradley effect and race in the race (Presidential 2008) than to concrete facts relevant to the race, such as Sarah Palin’s ethical violation in firing a key official (she was found to have been partly motivated)who failed to fire her former brother-in-law.  Obama has been Black since he was born, yet, now is the time for focusing on his racial identity.  If CNN and now ABC news must give so much time to the effect of Obama’s Blackness, then prayerfully these discussions will encourage White people who would vote for Obama but for his Blackness,  to vote according to their true judgment and conviction.

Here is a Wikipedia definition of the Bradley effect:

“The Bradley effect, less commonly called the Wilder effect,[1] is a proposed explanation for a discrepancy between voter opinion polls and election outcomes in American political campaigns when a white candidate and a non-white candidate run against each other.[2][3][4] Named for Tom Bradley, an African-American who lost the 1982 California governor’s race despite being ahead in some voter polls, the Bradley effect refers to an alleged tendency on the part of some voters to tell pollsters that they are undecided or likely to vote for a black candidate, and yet, on election day, vote for his/her white opponent. The theory of the Bradley effect is that the inaccurate polls have been skewed by the phenomenon of social desirability bias.[5][6] Specifically, some white voters give inaccurate polling responses for fear that, by stating their true preference, they will open themselves to criticism of racial motivation. The reluctance to give accurate polling answers has sometimes extended to post-election exit polls as well. The race of the pollster conducting the interview may factor in to voters’ answers.”

Undoubtedly, there is validity to the concept of the Bradley effect.  With accusations of voter fraud in ACORN registrations, online misinformation targeted to Democrats, and so on, uncertain, undecided and borderline voters may just put their hands in the air and declare, “I give”, or decide not to vote, because voters will not trust the voting process and believe that their vote counts.

Mulloverthis:  Your vote won’t count if you don’t vote.  Rush Limbaugh allegedly incited his listeners through “Operation Chaos” to register as Democrats and participate in the primary process, and to vote for Hilary, for the express purpose of making the Democratic Presidential race more competitive, and elongate the final selection of a Democratic Presidential nominee.  The effect of Operation Chaos cannot be pin-pointed or concretely identifiable, just like the Bradley effect.  These things have and will occur.  Giving time to clarify voter fraud schemes and tactics would be more beneficial, but of course, won’t rake in the ratings as much.

WHO IS SARAH PALIN?

by MullOverThis

Amazingly, Bill O’Reilly and many others can’t see the code language of this Presidential Election.  Marc Lamont Hill appeared on Bill’s show last week.  MarC took issue with certain code language,  the repeated use of which obviously sends an implicit message to a specific consitutency.  Or, at the very least, certainly excludes a specific constituency.  Although Bill was not a ravenous bull with Marc, he did not agree.  He could not comprehend how Marc could put such an onous on mere words.

Really?  Now, that’s incredible.

Palin can reach out to the “hockey mom”, “six pack Joe”, and “redneck”.  Who is Sarah Palin’s fishnet designed to reach?  Amazingly, Oprah reaches the same crowd with simply being herself, a woman who grew up as a young nappy headed black girl from the South who was molested by her family member, became promiscuous, lost a baby as a young teenager, and got back on track and never went back.  Today, she is an entertainment mogul and leading voice of influence (which Mulloverthis does not advocate) to people all over the world.  Sarah Palin can’t put her batteries in her brain and get behind a podium and think that most African Americans will relate to her.  Regardless of which economic classification, cultural affinity, or upbringing, African Americans are not rednecks and overwhelmingly, are not hockey moms.  The hockey rinks all over this great land the RNC platform and attendance during the convention reflect this obvious gap and mismatch.

Roland Martin, a CNN contributor, also tagged this issue this past weekend.  However, an African-American female analyst would not be boxed in, because she played soccer, so her mother was a soccer mom.  She could relate to Sarah Palin.  This kind of relatedness explains why so many African-Americans do overwhelmingly relate to the Republican party platform on values and moral isssues, yet choose to register and vote Democrat.  Somehow, the Democratic code language tends to be more endearing to the masses of diverse African-Americans.  Maybe that is attributable to the use of language that is not automatically exlusionary.  Imagine the array of Obama supporters if his public addresses were laden with remarks like “I’m just an average brother“.  Bill O’Reilly would put his thinking cap on and recognize that Obama wasn’t “reaching” out to him, or men like him, at all.

So Palin has won the attention of women who can relate to raising children, professional women who juggle family and career, and conservate Christian women because we can relate to her.  However, those who she can relate to, puts us in another ballpark.  Her language and words indicate that she is reaching for the sixpack Joe and the mothers of the overwhelmingly White hockey players.

When The Juice Dries Up

by MullOverThis

I remember the day I waited for the verdict in OJ’s murder trial better than I remember most days.  That day was a day that I would find that most of the hope vested in true justice in America would be crushed.  I heard the verdict, watched OJ’s reaction, his son’s reaction, and knew what I knew the moment I saw the televised chase in the white bronco.  As one who refuses to dethrone common sense for a bunch of extraneous theories that amount to nonsense, it was clear that Orenthal Simpson, The Juice, had something to hide.  Marsha Clarke and Chris Darden missed simple common sense approaches to working their legal theory and proving the prosecution’s case against OJ.  OJ’s legal team pimped stereotypes and the race card to give place to reasonable doubt.  Such mastery even trumped DNA evidence, which by the way, has no particular feelings against OJ.  And, we cannot forget Johnny Cochran’s “if [the glove] doesn’t fit, we must acquit”.   OJ’s immediate post trial behavior only substantiated that fact that I believed that OJ did in murder Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. His year-long pre-verdict promise to find the real killer never took place.  A much needed trip to the golf course did, however.   Nicole’s alleged drug abuse and frivolous lifestyle did not cloud my judgment about the worth of her life, or the ignorance many still hold regarding control and domestic abuse at its worst. The grand celebration that many African Americans conducted, because OJ symbolized someone who got away with it, like endless other white men who have gotten slaps on wrists for committing crimes against blacks, was not true equity.  OJ’s victory only symbolized the sickness of racism and celebrity love working in the reverse where African Americans by the masses showed that when given the opportunity, we would engage and celebrate the same racial bias that  historically served to oppress us.

As Denise Brown allegedly stated, all who worked to help OJ “go free” have suffered major castastrophes because God doesn’t like ugly.  As the following referenced AP article denotes regarding the recent Las Vegas trial, “He [OJ] was convicted of an armed robbery that happened on Sept. 13 and was found guilty on the 13th anniversary of his Los Angeles murder acquittal. The Las Vegas jury deliberated for 13 hours after a 13-day trial.”  Thirteen [13] is the number of apostasy, depravity and rebellion in Biblical numerics.  OJ will finally be sentenced for the current charges, yet I cannot help but believe that OJ, who is facing a possible life sentence, will spend incarcerated days knowing that he finally got what he deserved.

Although I believe OJ was set up and walked right into the trap set for him, he did so because his steps of life needed to take him to reap what he sowed.  He needed to be exposed for his shady low-grade lifestyle.  The same legal system that OJ allegedly “got over” on in 1995 is the same legal system that may have worked against him in this case.   OJ’s jury is this case was a jury of his peers.  OJ is not concerned about being surrounded by black people unless it involves his family.  So African Americans need not even attempt to use the make-up of the jury as a ground for bias against OJ because he is a Black man.  The Juice’s willful associations over the years have been with the same racial make-up of the jurors that heard the case and relevant facts in this case.

For OJ, it is time to pay the piper.

Ivoronics Palin-style

by MullOverThis

Ebony.

Ivory.

If ebonics is the English vernacular generally spoken by African-Americans, then there must be ivoronics.  And, ivoronics has a face and a name in quaint red-neck representation, folks.  Sarah Palin highlights the use of slang that is commonplace by many Joe six-pack, trailer park, ivories.  Although it is generally understood that ebonics is not acceptable in certain settings, such as  job interviews, professional work environments, and certain social settings, apparently ivoronics is acceptable wherever Palin decides to use it.

Let’s review some Palin ivoronics:

1.  darn-is often preceded with “gosh”;  a kind substitute for a common choice expletive “d*mn”.

2.  sure up/ shore up/shur up-to bring to balance; measure up; resolve; akin to ebonic slang “handle up”.

3.  ya-you; often precedes and used along with “betcha”.

4.  betcha-that is right/correct; yes; to place a wager.

5.  nu-kala/nook-ala-lipstick hockey mom’s way of pronouncing the word “nuclear” (often butchered by a self-proclaimed leading energy expert).

6.  palling-doing business with; associated with; having had common associations; akin to common ebonics words “chillin” or “hangin”.

7.  gotcha-surprise encounter; caught; when Palin can’t answer a question past her Alaskan world-view substantiated with intense GOP information sessions; akin to ebonics phrase “caught out there”.

Well, although I am not an ivoronics user, more or less expert, based upon the social codes for the use of ebonics, I’d dare to say that Palin has some sort of privilege that Black people do not.  Somehow, none of our African-American politicians can sit down and converse with the media or, through public presentation, regardless of dialect,  REPEATEDLY botch the English language.  When Black folks simply don’t enunciate words, such lack of proper speech denotes lack of education and readiness. When Palin does it, sprinkled with gross misstatements of fact, people can relate with Palin because she is “down to earth”.

Well, I gots plenty of peeps who are copacetic and hang with top dawgs that can hook you up.  These peeps could be trippin cuz they got it like that, but they, just like Palin,  do their thang during the day, and are down just like everybody else fo real.  But, they ain’t tryin to deal with no hot mess sit-u-hatians on the regular, so they just play it the way they need to, to be down and if you want to get wit it, can put you down too.

Finally, I am quite aware that EVERYTHING is more important than Palin’s language patterns for the upcoming election.  This fact has not stopped Palin from “pallin” with McCain supporters and grossly misguiding them with a distortion of facts and using the NYT to validate her speculative commentary.  Palin recently promulgated Obama’s association with a terrorist and forgot to mention that Obama met  William Ayers  when  Ayers was a professor, years past his so-called terrorist associations.  More significantly, one of McCain’s top advisors was also sitting on the same board with Obama and Ayers.

THE DEBATE WINNER

by MullOverThis

If I had to choose a debate winner, it would have to be McCain.  This resolve wouldn’t be based upon any substantive edge for McCain.  Both senators were superb, polished, and well-spoken at sticking hard to their campaign positions on the economy, foreign policy, the War on Iraq, taxes, and energy issues.  Both presidential candidates did not present anything new, or stir up the debate by issuing a challenge to their opponent.  McCain tried to throw out a life-line for Americans by suggesting that the government should consider buying out, or subsidizing homeowner mortgages to help alleviate the mortgage crisis and save some families from losing their homes.  Obama, on the other hand, acted like the moderator was there to simply manage the questions because he ultimately controlled the timing, rebuttal, and the like.  Obama isn’t even president, yet everyone must oblige him.  This was beyond confidence, it was simply arrogant and rude.

BUT, I don’t have to choose.

McCain nullified his edge from simply trying to get the extra credit points by being himself.  America got to see the real McCoy when he referred to Senator Obama as “that guy” or “that one”. Whatever McCain’s exact verbiage was, I could not believe he pointed to Obama and referenced his opponent in such a deragatory manner.   Words have context and had McCain even looked at Obama during the first debate, or acted like he was in a debate last night against Senator Obama, the words might have had a different “read”.  Clearly, McCain was condescending and is such an unpersonable human being that he could not even go through a debate without showing his true colors.  Pun intended and unintended.

As Obama hammered the theme of reviving the middle class, McCain didn’t miss one opportunity to point out that Obama isn’t as experienced as he is.  What McCain failed to realize is that Americans are no longer concerned about inexperience, at least to the point where it matters.  Obama didn’t make it this far because most Americans find him too inexperienced.  And for those of us who would feel more comfortable with a more seasoned statesman, McCain’s Pebbles (the Flinstones) Palin appointment as the Republican Vice Presidential nominee completely undermined any real belief that McCain believes experience should be weighted.  So, McCain’s assertion that “we don’t have time for on the job training” instantaneously  boomeranged to the Repubs camp cutting off McCain’s own neck for picking Bam Bam’s dream girl, the betcha gotcha redneck loving maverick promoting Palin, who conveniently quoted the New York Times to incite pandamonium against Obama for terrorist associations, this past week.  Yet, and please pause while digesting this irony, this same woman who has not found time for intense preparation on how to use the language of dignitaries–which a US potential President and Vice President should practice–because there’s such favorite “darn” words that a non-Washington insider should just be able to say at a Presidential level only when she is a cute redneck white woman, has constantly berated the media and blamed her ignoramus-ness during the Couric interview on another “gotcha” moment with the media.  Why cite and trust the integrity of the media, which Palin claims she was once a part of, when it is convenient to discredit Obama, but when the same journalists pose questions to Palin that make her uncomfortable, the media are “gotcha” captains?  Well, Palin needs minimal basic comprehension here:  there will be “gotcha” moments all the time during her potential Vice-Presidency with real questions for real issues that are only “gotcha” because they are above Palin’s head.  McCain’s comment landed Mulloverthis right on top of his own political suicide and poor judgment in appointing Palin.  Although Pat Buchanan and others credit Palin with bolstering McCain’s ticket, once the fan mail is opened in a few weeks, this country will find that most people put their ultimate trust and invested their hopes in voting for the other side.

Most immediate polls show Obama as the winner.  Obama’s lead in the debate probably corresponds with the overall lead Obama has over McCain in the latest presidential pick polls.  It is time for voters to make final decisions.  History has proven that politicians make a boat-load of promises that they often do not keep.  So now is the time for Americans to mullover the history, judgment, personality, accomplishments, and ideals of McCain and Obama to choose the next President.

PALIN POOPED

by MullOverThis

IF PALIN RE-INVIGORATED THE TICKET,  that means the Republican ticket represents appealing to the average Joe without DEALING WITH THE ISSUES HEAD ON.

PALIN looked wonderful.  Impeccable wardrobing, make-up, and the hair stylist really worked the Palin hair-do and gave her a sharp crisp yet feminine look.   Her demeanor, disposition and entire presentation was great.  AGAIN, Palin did well with what she can do well with.  After three days of intense preparation, she did well with the androidian campaign strategy and image she was chosen to represent mixed with every day sensibilities.  However, Palin cannot erase her prior interview performances.  She did not have three days of national, not simply Alaskan,  politics school before Katie Couric.  How much credit does Palin get for dodging questions, crash courses, and uh, NOT KNOWING JOHN MCCAIN’S RECORD?  Or, has she been perceived to be better than she actually was because she was engaging and did not flop again?

Joe Biden answered every question.  Period.  Point Blank.  Senate experience prepared him to ANSWER any question Gwen could muster.  Somehow over two decades of NATIONAL politics affecting millions of Americans made him the better candidate.  Somehow, I think most Americans just feel more comfortable with someone who does not check his podium notes every other second. Biden knew all the issues, Obama’s, McCain’s and his own RECORD on the issues.  Biden was a gentleman, well-spoken, warm and for those who minimize congressional expertise, watch the debate again and again.  I am glad that Biden capitalized on his vulnerability to the present concerns most Americans experience, just like any woman does.  He balanced Palin’s mush card with depicting the real pain hard and fast politicians feel when dealing with the same issues that lipstick pit bull women and beer gut rednecks deal with each day.

Palin debated Biden and played slick dodgeball.  Girlfriend is good and masking the duh factor.  I’m too tired to even go through the entire debate.  Sarah Palin used her energy expertise, her comfort zone, to deflect dealing with questions that she obviously knew nothing about, or chose not to tackle.  Her smile, coy disposition, Washington outsider, middle-class status and maverick foolishness was like listening to a broken record.  While she constantly scolded Biden for looking at the past, UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,  Palin prefaced her non-Washington insider status with constantly referring to the past:  what people are sick of, the corruption, greed and congressional performance.  The Bush administration and the corruption on Wall Street and all part of the past.  Palin is quite arbitrary about what past should be referred to, and what past is not relevant.  Apparantly, Palin recognizes the past only when she does not want to beat up the Bush Administration to the degree that she would alienate hard and fast Repubs, while attempting to make everyone else but the Maverick John McCain, responsible for much of what the nation has seen through a poor administration.

Tonight’s debate has helped many to finally draw the line.  Biden certainly won this debate in my opinion.  I have more confidence that if there was an unscheduled dialogue with no warning, we would find the Katie Couric Palin again.  And, ladies and gentlemen, we can’t afford to hire potential Vice President Palin a tutor for real Vice Presidency fulfillment and performance.

Finally, the greatest poop tonight was from Palin’s disingenius re-categorization of her ignorance when she asked what the vice-president does.  Of course, now, that was a joke.  Yet, her commentary tonight clearly demonstrated she is not aware of the Vice President’s constitutional leadership authority over the Congress. Lord, have mercy.

Finito.

THIS BAILOUT STUFF

by MullOverThis

Okay, the Senate is voting this evening on another version of the BAILOUT package.  The first bill failed to pass muster, and we shall see what occurs this evening.

To gain some insight into what this BAILOUT is addressing, check the link below:

http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1845816,00.html

Obviously, our elected officials in the House and Senate are not going to be Bush-ized into moving quickly to support his answer to the economic crisis.  History has taught us, as we still pay the piper in Iraq, not to rush to judgment with any solutions Bush finds plausible during a crisis phase.  It is better to deny, deny, and deny bills and author legislation that may actually BAIL us OUT of the economic downturn, than to back policies in haste with permanent lasting effects.  Even a majority of Repubs said “no” until they see sufficient oversight in administering the 700 Billion dollar inflow to the US economy.   So, let’s see what transpires with this latest Bailout package designed to address the domino effects of the crash of the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

THE BIDEN/PALIN DEBATE

by MullOverThis

Reputedly, some conservative Republicans are concerned about Palin’s abiity to perform for the upcoming Vice-Presidential debate.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/30/us/politics/30palin.html?nl=pol&emc=pola1

Based upon her robotic programmed responses during the Gibson interview made even more evident when speaking with Katie Couric, the Repubs have sequestered Palin for three days to prepare for this week’s debate.

How long is Palin going to have to prepare to BE the Vice President of the United States, if she needs three days of intense preparation to say what she’s been told?   If Palin cannot be trusted to speak from the breadth of knowledge, judgment and experience that she already has for a debate, how much more should she be trusted to, uh, run the country if McCain doesn’t survive a full term?  Just thought I should throw this question out there for those who are voting for the next President and could be President of the United States of America.

MEMO TO OPRAH ON PALIN

by MullOverThis

Memo To:   O

Re:              Palin on your couch

This Palin appointment to the Republican ticket as Vice President of the United States of America has invoked furor from many angles.  Some Hilary Clinton supporters are insulted that some strategists might have actually thought that Palin would be a Clinton substitute simply because she is a woman.  SNL immediately answered with a dingbat versus brainer spoof to illustrate the insanity of that tactic.

Many feminists or progressive women are appalled that Palin–an arch enemy to murdering babies (commonly known as abortion)–might be the Vice President or if need be, President of the United States of America.  Palin is highly unfavorable to those concerned about protecting Roe v. Wade, the strides of sex education, and women’s rights in general.  Having made rape victims pay for their own rape kits because it burdened the taxpayer too much makes Palin seem a bit anti-woman or entirely too withdrawn from reality for quite a bit of American women.  But the brouhaha doesn’t stop there.  High powered Republican party women were in-sensed by an increasing public challenge to Palin’s credibility, competence and judgment to be suitable for such an appointment.  They felt the need to back of all attacks on the basis of sex, throwing a blanket of “don’t touch Palin or you’re sexist” on the tough self-described pit bull.  Of course, Elizabeth from The View is so irate with Palin attacks that she can hardly keep her cool.  Lizzie’s party loyalty is humorous and frightening at the same time.  A potent Palin defender like Elizabeth believes that Palin is ready to be the President of the United States.  I guess she bonds with Palin on the athletic-got-some-babies thing, and we are white, so we can do anything note.

This Palin is acceptable, in large part, because she is  White is a reasonable conclusion.   We all know that if Palin’s name was Sharweka Jones, who took six years to graduate from four different colleges, described her husband as a good old black derogatory neighborhood term of endearment “my nigga”, bragged about her ability to hunt down animals as recreation from planes partially funded by government funds, had one Down’s Syndrome baby on her broad hips, while hugging her teenage daughter who is pregnant out of wedlock, with her baby’s daddy dressed in hard sole shoes and a tie standing by the Jones’ side, there would be no need for this memo.  White people and even Black folks would tell Sharweka Jones to take NWA (N-word with an attitude) off of her hips, with a name inspired by one of her favorite rap groups, and finish parenting her children, TouchDown, Foul, Safe, and Yaga2bkiddinme, all of whose names were inspired by the love of football.   Sharweka wouldn’t even surpass ridiculousness to cause the average voter to have to dig deeper into her performance to know that she was a joke.  All of the other questionable issues, such as motivations for firings in her office, or having hired an administrator to completely subsidize her own responsibilities as the small town mayor wouldn’t even get attention.  As a black woman, O, you know how the same foolishness that is clearly visible on black folks somehow becomes glistening qualities when white people want it to be right.  For your own reference, Tim Wise couldn’t have captured this concept better.  Take a moment and peruse This Is Your Nation On White Privilege, one of Wise’s latest articles posted on Red Room.

http://www.timwise.org/

So now we come to how you become relevant in all of this.   We pretty much figured out that you thought you were an insular entity when it came to white maintstream women.  You’ve been telling the entire world, and they have been gleefully on-board, what to wear, what not to do, what to buy, what to read, what to watch, what to think, how to be hip, when to move on, and the whole nine yards.  An appearance on Oprah’s day-time talk show pretty much makes or breaks a situation because of your influence.  At least this holds true for the idiots who can’t think for themselves and realize that with all of your brilliance, you have been and will continue to be wrong from time to time simply because you are human and don’t always espouse the same values.  And, for those who are Christians and believe in demons, we certainly cannot give you too much regard when you invite guests to summons demons to appear, and hopefully will have the power to re-summons Abraham’s spirit to appear on another episode of your show.  Some of us realize that you are a person who has a right to think what you want to, even if you are an ardent supporter of Obama who has thrown your weight of influence, star-power, and mullah to help Obama win the election.  You are a citizen and have a right to want to see your candidate of choice make it to the White House.

Just in case you were unaware, a number of white women don’t care about your personal or professional standards in not permitting Palin to be interviewed on your show.  They want to see Palin hit your couch with the cameras rolling.  They have a right, at least in their minds, to see their girl get the Oprah exposure.  Never mind your even-handed policy which has stated that during the campaign, you would not have any of the candidates on your show.  That is not enough, because it doesn’t give Palin supporters what they want.  What they want is to see her in a setting that they are familiar with:  your set and you.  So, here’s a compromise for you to consider.  Ship your couch to Ellen, Martha Stewart, or Bonnie and let’s see how much influence they can muster-up to help appease the pain you’ve inflicted on the moms and housewives who can identify with Palin.  Maybe Rosie will even come out of retirement to put her status signature on Palin.

The other alternative will have to include waiting for these up-risers to calm-down, or to live with their threats to never watch your show again.  In either case, you will still be O and have millions of viewers all over the world.  Somehow, I think you’ll more than survive.
